VERIZON TO BEGIN WI-FI CALLING THIS WEEK

VERIZON WILL START WI-FI CALLING THIS WEEK ON FEW SMARTPHONES.

Verizon is planning to begin  Wi-Fi calling by this week to few customers who are using  Android smartphones, making it the last major US carrier to offer the wi-fi calling feature.
Verizon announced on Friday that it would do a software update on December 8 that  update will be to allow  Samsung's Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge customers to make and receive calls using Wi-Fi. The feature is specially useful when customers find themselves in area with weak or no network coverage an even if they dont have enough credit to make a call.
Telecommunications giant said software update will  be issued in phases to Samsung's Android smartphones. This feature will  be extended to additional Android smartphones and Apple's iPhone users  by early 2016, said Verizon.
Verizon is the last of the major US wireless carriers to offer Wi-Fi calling. AT&T startes its wi-fi calling service in October for Apple iPhone users, following in the path of t-mobile and sprint.It seems a  methodical step to improve call quality as well as extend coverage of their voice networks.
In addition to T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T, there are numbers of Wi-Fi carriers that default to Wi-Fi first before connecting to a cellular network.such as republic wireless .Scratch Wireless, and silicon valley giant Google's nascent project-fi , which was launched back in April and is compatible with the Google nexus 6p,5x and 6.
Verizon is promoting this newly launched feature as part of its "Advanced Calling" campaign voice-over LTE service, considered the next step in voice calls because it runs completely on Internet and emphasis on features such as clearer calls and the integration of video and voice services. All Wi-Fi calls made inside US are free, but international calls will be charged at regular rates, said verizon.
