SKYPE OFFERS SUPPORT TO FLOOD VICTIMS OF CHENNAI BY GIVING FREE CALLING SERVICE
India's fourth city with most population Chennai, is sufering from natural disaster. Torrential rains and severe flood has struck city of nearly 5 million and in result of that whole city is paralyzed, with little relief in sight.
The most important thing after securing life and food availability is Communication which has been difficult, especially for people abroad that are worried about their relatives and friends back home. To reduce the severity of problem, Skype has announced that all calls made to Chennai mobile and landline numbers will now be free of cost.
Skype team said in their blog "In light of the devastating floods in Chennai -- and the subsequent impact to the local communications infrastructure -- with immediate effect we are making all international calls to landlines and mobiles into Tamil Nadu free of charge for the next few days,"
Chennai has been flooding from past four weeks following a month of intense rainfall,Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Friday that the death toll is around 269, with hundreds of thousands forced to evacuate their homes, calling it an "unprecedented calamity," reported Indian
Skype is another company after Facebook which is helping people in crisis.Facebook helped people by using "safety check" feature which automatically sends user in an affected area a note asking if they're safe -- when a user clicks "Yes, let me friends know," the tool notifies their Facebook friends. The social network said it would utilise the function more widely in the wake of November's terrorist attacks in Paris.
Before Chennai floods Skype came to help for people of Nepal when earthquake of 7.8Mw or 8.1M struck Nepal.
