How Science Changed World In 2015

The Ways  Science Helped To Bring A  Positive Change In World Even After  Many Ups & Downs In This Year.

In year 2015 world saw many ups and downs from furious natural disasters to terrorism from a step to end global warming to free internet initiative.Whole world witnessed many good things as well as bad things and majority of those good things were because of innovations in field of science.The key player in those positive developments was science.Here I will mention those scientific researches and innovations which helped to cool down little bit the blazing fire of negativity across the globe.

1."SWITCHING OFF" CANCER CELLS GROWTH USING PLEKHA 7 PROTEIN.

Scientists in mayo clinic Florida did incredible job when they programmed cancer cells back to normal cells.It was like a new hope for current cancer patients and for generations to come.It was first time when aggressive cancer cells in breast,lungs and bladder were moved backed to normal condition.Scientists believe this technique can be used in future to treat tumors which can save patients from expensive and painful chemotherapy.Scientists discovered that they can switch on cancer by removing microRNAs and stopping them from producing protein pelkha7.They figure out this process can be reversed to stop cancer cells from producing by injecting pelkha 7 and microRNAs,It is till not that enough to fight cancer but still it solve a lengthy biological puzzle and would play a major role in other researches related to cancer.It is simply another big step towards solving cancer mystery.

2.GREEN TEA A GUARD AGAINST ORAL CANCER

In January of 2015 a research was published by Pennsylvania state university food department.According to researchers compound epigallocatechin-3-gallate-EGCG found in green tea can kill oral cancer cells without causing any damage to normal/healthy cells.Joshua lambart associate professor of food science revealed that this compound triggers a cycle in mitochondria which kills cancer cells.He said "EGCG is doing something to damage the mitochondria and that mitochondrial damage sets up a cycle causing more damage and it spirals out, until the cell undergoes programmed cell death." he further said "It looks like EGCG causes the formation of reactive oxygen species in cancer cells, which damages the mitochondria, and the mitochondria responds by making more reactive oxygen species .The researchers said EGCG did not cause any damage to normal cells infact it increased their protective capabilities.The next step would be to conduct this study on animals if it will be a success then this process could be used in future to treat cancer.

3. EBOLA VACCINATION










Ebola a virus or disease which can be life threatening created a huge buzz in start of 2015. In July Canadian scientists at national microbiology laboratory in Winnipeg discovered world's first effective Ebola vaccination.This vaccine is named VSV-ZEBOV .It is being made by pharma giant Merck.WHO representative dr.marie paul kiney said"it suggests it works,it works pretty quickly and it works well."Further interim analysis was conducted by monitoring board which concluded the result that vaccine was working.It is also commercially being made by New link Genetics. It was the major scientific breakthrough which bought hope and new energy in people regarding Ebola.All the hardwork of scientific institutions worked.

4. MAN WITH PARALYZED LEGS WALKS AGAIN

Man in USA,California started walking again.Man in center of the picture suffered a accident and in result of that his lower body was completely paralyzed because of injury to spinal cord.As reported he walked a distance of 3.5 meter after being fitted with an electrode cap which picks signal from brain and send it wirelessly to computer which decides according to the wave produce that whether he wants to stay still or walk and then sends a signal to belt  which triggers muscle movement .It is a difficult process because you have to learn to how to generate those signals in your brain  and you should have tone muscles to move your legs and learning the process of moving your leg one after another.Still its a small light of hope in darkness and this method can be used in future to ease lives of people with lower body paralyzed.

5. "IMAGINARY MEAL" PILL

Scientist dr. Ronald Evans developed a imaginary pill which tricks our body that we have eaten lot of food and now its time for clean up.It is possible by drug fexaramine which releases protein farensoid x receptor which plays role in releasing of bile acid from liver and digesting food.Scientist said this drug doesn't dissolve in blood like other fat loss products which are based on caffeine and other appetite suppressants which results in crashes.That's why this drug would not give crashes.This experiment was conducted on fat mice on period of five weeks.In those weeks mice stopped gaining wait and cholesterol and blood sugar level remained low and temperature was up which means her metabolism was firing up.Clinical trials are likely to be conducted on humans if trials would be a success then it could play a major role in fighting obesity.
6. WATER FOUND ON MARS

In last few months of 2015 NASA confirmed that water flows on today's Mars.Back ago it was thought Mars was once a planet with water but later it was frozen. Using imaging spectrometer on MRO researchers found evidence of water they said darkish streaks appear to ebb and flow over time.They darken and appear to flow down steep slopes during warm seasons and fade away in cooler seasons.These streaks appear when temperature is greater than -10 degrees fahrenheit. Lead scientist for NASA's mars exploration program said 

It took multiple spacecraft over several years to solve this mystery, and now we know there is liquid water on the surface of this cold, desert planet.It seems that the more we study Mars, the more we learn how life could be supported and where there are resources to support life in the future.” 

While another evidences which NASA found on Red planet was the hydrated salts which lower the freezing point in liquid brine.Just like it is found on roads in earth causes snow and ice to melt quickly.The search for life on Red planet continues with possibilities there will be life after few years on Mars but still all these researches are in its initial stages and it's not possible to draw conclusion.

In 2015 the world saw many changes and most memorable moments in history from cricket world cup to Nepal earthquake. Every field witnessed some most interesting and memorable moments.Same thing Astronomy witness as NASA took few pictures of giant stars blasting and fading away into gases. 1. WOLF RAYET STAR 

Star WR-124 which is surrounded by nebula m-167. Nebula m-167 is no more than 10,000 years old.Which is baby in astronomical terms. Still it makes a beautiful sight with amazing flare in it.

Most burning stars in our universe might be the most shortest lived.Wolf Rayet in its last stages bright up and gets hot to an extreme level with million times more than our lovely sun.It is located in constellation saggitarius. This picture was taken by Hubble space telescope.Dynamics of this star are different than our sun its mass is  around nine times more and radius ten times of our sun.They burn more brighter as they get old.As they run out of elements there heat and radiation increases which result in powerful winds which causes loss of mass.When there core collapse they explode out in form of supernova.Well this star have still some life left.

2. VEIL NEBULA 

Known as Veil Nebula is a debris one of the best supernova remnants we know till now.This picture with details was released by NASA on 24sep 2015.It shows a small section of remains of star around 8000 years ago.The entire nebula is expanded over 110 light years covering the size of around six full moons.It is located 2100 light years ago from Earth in constellation cygnus,the swan.It shows gaseous remains of star which was 20 times more bigger than our sun.Nebula is along the large bubble of less dense gad which was blown away prior to its self detonation.

3. MESSIER 96 

It's a spiral galaxy located only 35 million light years away from us.Its dynamics are similar to milky way galaxy it have same mass and size.It was first discovered in 1781 by Pierre Mechain. The galaxy looks like a giant maelstrom of glowing gas.Gases and dust around it is unevenly spread throughout of its spiral arms and even with its core not at galactic center. This could have been because of the gravitational pull by other galaxies nearby.This picture was taken by my favorite Hubble telescope and was released by NASA on sep 4 2015.

4. PLANETARY NEBULA 

Generally known as planetary Nebula and Astronomically it is known as pk329-02.2. Some times it is often referred as Menzel 2 named after astronomer. It is located in constellation of Norma in southern sky.When stars around sun comes to their last stages they shed their outer layers into space which looks like glowing gaseous clouds.In this picture star causes this blue gas with two stars in center.It was discovered that stars at upper right corner is the central star while the second one is physical companion of star.In next few thousand years ago these gases will fade away in darkness of universe.It is its good bye sign before it reaches in its last moment of  life and becomes white dwarf.It was last updated by NASA on oct 9 2015.

5. Celestial Fireworks 

It is picture of  young stars flaring to life in blue color while nebula in between them.It was released to mark 25th anniversary of Hubble in space.It is basically a cluster which is expands over 6 and 13 light years.Giant star cluster is approx 2 million years old and have some of the galaxies hottest and brightest even massive stars.The red little tiny dots in landscape represent new born stars still wrapped up in gas and dust cocoons and are only 1 or 2 million years old.Star cluster which is in center of image shows red shades which represent are hydrogen and bluish green region is predominantly oxygen.

6. A LITTLE GEM

Well NASA call it a little gem it is basically a planetary nebula which is called NGC 6818 in terms of astronomy.It resides far from us in  constellation of Sagittarius which is around 6000 light years from us.Its body spans over half light year across.When stars like sun enters in their last phase they shed their outer layers into space which causes glowing gaseous clouds.It can have very complex shapes as well.It shows a bright and enclosed central bubble which is surrounded by larger diffuse cloud.Well scientists of NASA believe that stellar winds from central star propels is the out flowing material which sculpts shape of this star.Fast winds moves into slower clouds it created bright blowout at outer layer of bubble. It was first taken in 1997 but now it was released again.
